Extra/Ordinary Senses at Berlin Science Week 2025 with A Hidden Variable

An invitation to sense beyond the familiar…

This November, as part of Berlin Science Week, A Hidden Variable in partnership with MaHalla BERLIN presents Extra/Ordinary Senses, a two-day exploration of embodiment, synaesthesia, sensory augmentation, and speculative perception. The event brings together artists, scientists, and thinkers who are reimagining what it means to sense and experience the world.

The exhibition, running from 8 to 9 November 2025, invites visitors to step into unfamiliar sensory dimensions through immersive installations and interactive works. Featured projects include Hemathurgy, Kùµα, Life Parallels, Sounding Canvas, Traces of a Monologue, Unfolding Presence, and Visible Residues. Each piece merges art, neuroscienc,e and emerging technologies to reveal new ways of perceiving and understanding reality.

On 9 November, an interdisciplinary panel discussion hosted by EDGE, moderated by Saskia Wheeler will bring together voices from neuroscience, philosophy, sensory design, media arts, and speculative research to explore how perception, cognition, and technology shape our experience of the world.

We are delighted to welcome our speakers:

  • Dr. Thuli Wolf
  • Dr. Prateep Beed
  • Lori Baldwin
  • Dr. Michael Schmuker

Together, they will open up new perspectives on how sensory experience connects to creativity, knowledge, and imagination, inviting audiences to reflect on how perception might evolve beyond the familiar.

Tickets are available at the door.
