Creative Health: On Connection, Embodiment, and Awe with the Cocreation.loft

…and what happens when art, science, and embodiment meet?

On November 27th, EDGE‘s monthly Nexus workshop series and cocreation.loft ’s Future Of Work Salon series will come together to host  an interdisciplinary gathering exploring the emerging concept of creative health,  a field that investigates how aesthetic experiences and creative practices can support mental, social, and physiological well-being.

Instead of viewing creativity solely as artistic expression or individual talent, this event offers a broader perspective: creativity as a biological and relational resource that can support human flourishing.

What does science tell us about creative health?

Research in neuroaesthetics, creativity psychology, and social neuroscience suggests that creative and aesthetic experiences can positively affect the brain and body:

  • Aesthetic experience engages neural circuits involved in emotion, reward, and memory, contributing to pleasure and cognitive engagement.
  • Embodied practices (such as mindful movement or dance) can help regulate the autonomic nervous system and reduce stress responses.
  • Creating together strengthens social bonding, trust, and a sense of belonging which are key components of mental health.
  • Awe is that feeling of wonder which is associated with greater cognitive openness and more cooperative behaviour.

In other words, feeling beauty, curiosity, and connection is not only enjoyable. It is physiologically restorative!

An evening of knowledge, practice, and dialogue

The evening invites both mind and body to learn together: beginning with the science of aesthetic experience and awe, presented by Saskia Wheeler and Corinna Kuehnapfel;followed by Lukas Feireiss, who brings a creative lens to the topic;and concludes with an embodiment practice led by Kathy Känzig, allowing the body to participate in the integration of the evening. A dedicated networking moment closes the event, creating space for conversations that continue what has been felt.
